at St. George's House

Drawing on years of experience working with secondary schools from around the country, our staff team has good local knowledge and can work with you to provide the right programme specific to GCE requirements and your needs.

Tailor made for you Our staff are able to give you support at whatever level you need, from advising on suitable sites for study to providing teaching sessions specific to your needs. Our aim is to teach through hands-on field work, linking ecology concepts to real life applications. Further class based lectures can also cover key concepts in more depth.

Study facilities Our facilities include two large meeting rooms for lectures with networked computers and fieldwork software to enable the analysis of collected data. During field study sessions there is an emphasis on small group work to encourage full involvement of all students.

Quality and value For field study weeks we accommodate up to 36 students in dormitories, with smaller ensuite rooms for teachers. As a charitable trust we rely on support from donations and so are able to offer outstanding value for what we provide. Recommendations from other teachers can be provided on request.

Biology A2 The ecology element of the A2 specification is ideally completed as part of a field trip. Field study sessions can be based on the superb variety of habitats found in North Devon. Braunton Burrows, the largest sand dune system in England, is within a few miles and is a recognised UNESCO Biosphere; perfect for studying succession and xerophytes. We have a variety of rocky shores within a short drive and these are suitable for zonation transects and further projects. Rivers, woodlands, salt marshes and ponds are also within the locality. Sites on Exmoor are within half an hour’s drive. Guidance and transport can be provided to enable students to prepare, collect data and write up their own projects.

Activities We also offer an outdoor activity experience -

what better way to reward your students! Most popular

is surfing but we are also licensed by the Adventure

Activities Licensing Authority for the provision of rock

climbing, kayaking and a variety of other watersports

activities.

Please contact us to discuss how we can help your

students get the most from our surroundings in North Devon.
